Microsoft Proposes Buyouts for Approximately 60,000 Employees, According to Reports

Microsoft is extending buyout offers to approximately 60,000 employees, according to hinews. This initiative represents the company’s latest strategy to reduce expenses and restructure its workforce in alignment with advancements in artificial intelligence. Reports indicate that employees at the vice president level and below within select teams across the U.S., Canada, India, and the U.K. will qualify for this offer. However, certain employees, particularly those engaged in data centers, sales, and marketing, will not be eligible.

Amy Coleman, Microsoft’s Chief People Officer, communicated details regarding the buyouts in a message to employees on Monday. “The Voluntary Exit Offer reflects an important part of how we’re evolving our approach to change: creating greater flexibility and, where possible, more ways for employees to shape their next chapter,” the message stated. “This offer gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new choice to make that transition now with support.”

Employees who opt for the buyout will receive benefits akin to those provided in a conventional severance package, according to the reports. Earlier this year, Microsoft had also presented buyout options to employees nearing retirement age, resulting in over 30% of the approximately 8,750 eligible individuals accepting the offer. Microsoft has not yet responded to inquiries from hinews regarding this latest initiative.
