TikTok Permanently Shuts Down Advertising Account for ‘Musk’ Documentary

A four-hour documentary focused on Elon Musk is facing significant challenges from social media platforms, with TikTok recently banning the film’s advertising account. According to hinews, the documentary’s distributor, Bleecker Street, was informed by TikTok that the account had been subjected to a “permanent suspension” due to its political content. Hinews has reached out to TikTok for a statement. Promotional advertisements for the trailer of “Musk,” directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, were initially rejected by Meta and YouTube as well; however, those platforms later permitted the ad, with Meta attributing the initial rejection to “an error.” Gibney has recently confirmed that the film’s international distributor, Universal, had hesitated in its plans to release “Musk,” but is now proceeding with the rollout. X, the platform owned by Musk, has declined to run ads for “Musk.” TikTok’s U.S. operations are partially owned by Larry Ellison, who, like Musk, has been a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump. “Musk” premiered in just four theaters last weekend and is now set to expand its release. It is expected to stream on HBO next year, which is now part of Paramount/Skydance and is overseen by Ellison’s son, David.
