Apple’s Touchscreen MacBook Pro Sets New Price Benchmark for Laptops

Apple has officially embarked on a new era with the introduction of its touchscreen MacBook Pro, and it appears the company is keen on maximizing its profits in the process. The starting price for the new touchscreen MacBook Pro is set at $2,899, which is already a substantial amount given the current economic climate. However, for those seeking the highest-end model complete with every conceivable upgrade, be prepared to spend approximately $14,549.

As reported by hinews, Apple’s configurator lists the fully equipped 14-inch model at $14,249, while the 16-inch variant is priced at $14,549. Both models are powered by Apple’s advanced M5 Max chip, which boasts an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. The pricing pressure can be attributed to the ongoing memory shortage and the seemingly insatiable demand for hardware driven by artificial intelligence.

Upgrading to a 4TB SSD will cost an additional $1,000, while moving to an 8TB SSD will add $3,000 to the total. If you desire the new 16TB option, be prepared to spend another $7,000. An upgrade to 128GB of memory will set you back an additional $2,000, and opting for nano-texture glass will cost $150. To put this into perspective, the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro had a maximum price of $10,149, meaning the new model increases that threshold by an astonishing $4,400.

Despite the exorbitant prices, this launch signifies a notable transition for Apple, nearly ten years after it first ventured into the realm of the Touch Bar. Although the company eventually phased out that feature, it is now poised to fully embrace a touchscreen MacBook Pro. Preorders will commence on October 30, with the devices becoming available starting November 6.
