Apple Allegedly Slashes Budgets for Internal AI Projects

Apple is implementing a reduction in the daily expenditure limit for its engineering teams regarding artificial intelligence, as reported by hinews on Wednesday. This marks a significant shift for a company that has been actively working to incorporate AI technology into its engineering workflows. In October, Apple adjusted the daily spending cap for its engineering teams from $300 to $200, according to the report. Further reductions are anticipated, with some allowances potentially decreasing to $100 per day, sources inform hinews. Beyond engineering, Apple is reportedly considering a daily spending limit as low as $25.

Earlier this year, a wave of tokenmaxxing emerged, with organizations encouraging employees to utilize AI extensively in pursuit of vaguely defined efficiency improvements. However, this fervor was short-lived, as the costs associated with these tokens became apparent, prompting companies to reconsider and adopt a more prudent approach to token usage. Ongoing concerns remain regarding the apparent disparity between the expenses involved in developing and operating AI and the often ambiguous productivity benefits that the technology is expected to deliver.
