Blacksmith Achieves Unicorn Status Following Sequoia’s Series C Investment

Blacksmith, a platform designed to enhance the efficiency of software development and testing, including code generated by artificial intelligence, revealed on Wednesday that it has secured $66 million in a Series C funding round led by Sequoia, bringing the company’s valuation to $1 billion.

In the announcement, Blacksmith’s co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash stated that the company was established to alleviate the challenges associated with continuous integration (CI)—the process of building, testing, merging, and validating code changes—making it “less painful.” In a blog entry, he noted that “most companies are struggling to keep up with the volume of CI they need to run,” particularly in a time when a significant amount of code is produced by AI. “As agents write more of the world’s software, the question that matters is whether it can be trusted,” he emphasized.

The company also disclosed that its annual recurring revenue has surged 17 times and that it has conducted over 90 million CI jobs, which are individual automated code checks. Among its clientele are Mercury and Granola. This Series C funding follows closely on the heels of a $45 million Series B round completed just two months prior, which valued the company at $550 million. A year earlier, Blacksmith was valued at $60 million after securing a $10 million Series A. To date, it has raised a total of $125 million.
