Replit Ends Partnership with Anthropic, CEO Confirms

Replit, the AI coding platform that has garnered significant popularity among startup founders and developers, has ceased its collaboration with Anthropic, as announced by the company’s CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad during his presentation at Disrupt. Masad cited multiple factors influencing this decision, including financial considerations. Although Replit formed a partnership with OpenAI in August, there had been no prior indication of a termination of its relationship with Anthropic.

“I believe ChatGPT has improved significantly,” Masad remarked, noting that the company employs an internal benchmark to evaluate various performance metrics. “We also publish a public benchmark, and consistently, Sol and Astra excel in creating vibe-coded applications from the ground up. This decision was influenced by cost, partnership dynamics, and performance metrics. For all these reasons, we concluded that they were a more suitable partner at this time.”

Replit offers a cloud-based software development platform that enables users to create and deploy applications directly from their web browsers. Under its previous partnership with Anthropic, Replit utilized the AI lab’s Claude models to support its platform, a collaboration that reportedly contributed to a significant increase in the company’s revenue.

However, Masad’s statements have been contested by sources familiar with the partnership between Anthropic and Replit. One individual, who requested anonymity, indicated that the partnership remains active. Evidence on the company’s website, along with blog and social media posts, suggests that Replit was utilizing Anthropic products as recently as a few weeks ago. For example, a blog entry from late September references Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models operating within Replit Agent’s production environment. Concurrently, a product employee from Replit shared a post on X highlighting the use of Anthropic’s flagship model Opus 5.5 and promoting its features.

hinews reached out to Replit for clarification and will provide updates on this story if a response is received. During his presentation at Disrupt, Masad also shared insights regarding the company’s growth, emphasizing that enterprise revenue is beginning to constitute a larger portion of overall earnings. “We’re not disclosing ARR figures at this moment, but in terms of growth, enterprise revenue was approximately 2% last year,” Masad stated. “This year, I would estimate that around 15% of our revenue comes from enterprise contracts, with over 50% of our revenue derived from B2B transactions.”

Masad further discussed the importance of robust AI safety measures, stating, “Just as humans require a conducive environment to work—such as a pleasant office, quality food, air conditioning, and computers—agents also need a suitable habitat to function effectively. This habitat must include proper orchestration, effective error recovery, robust safety and security protocols, sandboxing, good networking, and identity and authorization management. Once all these elements are in place, AI can be deployed safely.”
